If you have Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), you may be worried that your condition will progress to dementia. But rest assured, the shift to dementia is not necessarily inevitable. It depends on what’s causing the impairment. Sometimes it’s caused by disease, such as Alzheimer’s or a vascular disease, and other times it’s the result of things going on in your life or health that make it difficult for your brain to function at its highest level.
