LATE Dementia Emerges as a Common Alzheimer's Mimic in the Oldest Adults

The most well-known disease that causes dementia is Alzheimer's. However, the proportion of patients with 'LATE' dementia, a different type from Alzheimer's, is higher than expected, prompting calls for the development of new treatments focused on LATE. On the 28th of November, 2025, The New York Times introduced LATE, a disease with symptoms similar to Alzheimer's but with a different pathology. Because LATE's clinical symptoms are similar to those of Alzheimer's, it is believed that many cases may have been misdiagnosed as Alzheimer's disease.
