Scientists have been aware of vitamin D receptors (VDR) throughout the nervous system1 for over a decade now. Past research has linked vitamin D sufficiency to better overall cognitive function, increased attention span, and depressive symptoms, while low vitamin D levels have been linked to depression. From neuroprotection to mood support, vitamin D plays a critical role in brain health—which is exactly why dementia researchers have shown interest in how vitamin D impacts cognitive functions.
