Scientists map 'energy network patterns' in brain to track Alzheimer's

Through analyzing brain scans and blood tests from hundreds of people in the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative database, the team, led by Paul R. Territo, Ph.D., and Juan Antonio Chong Chie, Ph.D., discovered how brain networks reorganize as the disease progresses. They published their findings in Alzheimer's & Dementia: The Journal of the Alzheimer's Association. The team analyzed brain metabolic activity and the associated functional networks over the course of Alzheimer's disease, which develops structures like a "city-wide power grid."
