On the opening day of the world's largest dementia research conference, a brain health startup presented real-world outcomes data showing that weekly phone calls with a licensed speech therapist — supplemented by a voice AI between sessions — produce results on par with national benchmarks for in-person outpatient care. For the roughly four in five Americans with mild cognitive impairment or early dementia who never reach an outpatient clinic, the implications are immediate: a Medicare-covered program that requires nothing more than the ability to pick up a phone may now be available.
