Tim reflects on the stigma that is often attached to dementia and the importance of the Black, African and Caribbean Admiral Nurse clinics. My grandma, Valera, was a truly amazing woman. She was generous, reserved, and had a dry and warm sense of humour – she was typical of her generation. She was born on the Caribbean island of Barbuda in 1936. In the early 1950s, my grandparents answered the call to come to the UK as part of the Windrush generation, hopeful about helping to rebuild the mother country after the war.
