Smart Sensors and AI Boost Ageing-in-Place Efforts

Singapore Management University (SMU) and Sengkang General Hospital (SKH) have partnered on an innovative initiative that uses artificial intelligence (AI) and ambient sensors to support elderly individuals living alone. The Sensors In-home for Elder Wellbeing (SINEW) project aims to detect mild cognitive impairment (MCI) early, before it progresses to dementia, by passively monitoring daily activity patterns in real-world home environments. SINEW is the first long-term study of its kind in Asia. It involves the installation of nine unobtrusive sensors, including wearable devices, in the homes of participants.
